To add to the list of summer conventions and expos that I can’t afford to go to, a friend alerted me to the upcoming TypeCon 2004, with “twenty optional workshops cover everything from letterpress printing, showcard lettering, Asian calligraphy, and Renaissance handwriting to digital font production, type for mobile devices, and expert typography.”
Some of the workshops sound way hot: “Digital Font Production” presented by FontLab, “Three-Dimensional Pop-In Alphabet Book” presented by David Winkler, “Hands on Ideographs: Aesthetics and Techniques” with Kazunaki Tanahashi.
But alas, the price of admission is out of my reach, so I’ll have to sit by the window looking out towards Hotel Nikko, listening to the shouts of joy and glee from the typography fiends within.
