Idaho looks like Central California!

Napoleon Dynamite opened at a theater near me, so I went to see what all the buzz was about. It reminded me a little bit of “The Reflecting Skin” mixed with “Welcome To The Dollhouse” but with much much more nerd appeal.

Comics: Art imitating life?

As I’m sure you’re all aware by now, the good people at McSweeney’s Quarterly handed over the reins to Chris Ware for the most recent issue #13. Beautifully designed, as are all their issues, Chris Ware has opened the doors to fellow artists such as Adrian Tomine, Art Spiegelman, Lynda Barry, Dan Clowes, R. Crumb, and more of your favorite indie comic artists.

Comics: Art imitating life?

As I’m sure you’re all aware by now, the good people at McSweeney’s Quarterly handed over the reins to Chris Ware for the most recent issue #13. Beautifully designed, as are all their issues, Chris Ware has opened the doors to fellow artists such as Adrian Tomine, Art Spiegelman, Lynda Barry, Dan Clowes, R. Crumb, and more of your favorite indie comic artists.

Not only is the issue all comics, but interspersed among them are wonderful articles on the deep, deep history of comics and the greater implications of the sensual tango words and images do in just 28 pages.

A note on the Universal National Service Act (aka “The Draft”)

The story about the draft being reinstated has recently resurfaced, and I say resurfaced because this story has been around since early 2003 when it was first introduced. It seems that people have forgotten/ignored/not bothered to investigate the facts behind it before shouting out their call to arms.
