New Music Wrap Up! - September 18th

Have I ever really told you about what I’m listening to? Here’s a quick review of the new sounds:

The Kleptones - A Night At The Hip-Hopera
Mixmasters The Kleptones, who brought us the wonderful “Yoshimi Battles The Hip Hop Robots” mixtape are at it again, this time bringin Queen into the mix. Ol’ Dirty Bastard meets Another One Bites The Dust, Bassheads meets Keep Yourself Alive, and they even laid a really good Atmosphere track over Save Me. Like before, they picked the choicest hip hop tracks to marry with the greats of Queen, and I highly recommend it. Another plus? Aqua Teen Hunger Force samples of The Mooninites!!

Sons & Daughters - Love The Cup
I don’t know much about these kids, but I think they might be from Scotland judging by the lead singer’s accent. Most of the songs are slow rocking, with a bouncy bass line and fuzzy guitar and overall tons of fun. I always enjoy finding something by someone I’ve never heard of before and actually liking it!

Check out some of their songs at their website here.

Le Tigre - This Island
What can I say about Le Tigre? Pretty fun, pretty rocking, pretty synth. Some of the songs on this new album were on the verge of too eurotrash synthy for my tastes, but it’ll probably grow on me. Some of the songs made me think Polly Styrene came back with a rocking vengance, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing now is it? Includes some great songs like the politically charged New Kicks with it’s collection of anti-war chants and protest speeches as well as a pretty nice Le Tigre style cover of “So Excited”. I think my favorite track so far is the title track, This Island.

Fun Le Tigre times are here.

The Go Team - Thunder, Lightening, Strike
Holy crap! At first go this reminded me a little of Arling and Cameron’s first album, but I see now it’s different. Very fun, very upbeat, samples, horns, and a little bit of hip hop. I don’t know much about these kids either… I’m guessing they’re from umm… Sweden. Who knows. But holy crap this debut of theirs is pretty rocking! Highly recommended!

DJ Krush - Jaku
Ok, don’t get me wrong. I love most of DJ Krush’s stuff. This new one though… it’s a little too much in the Buddha Bar camp verging on 93.1’s The Wave (easy listening smooth jazz). There’s some good stuff on here and it might make some good background music for gettin’ chilly-chill, but I personally am not digging it as much as I have his other stuff.

The DJ’s site can be found here.

Ok that’s it for now kids. That was fun! I’ll try to do this more often so as to maybe help you all find some new stuff to listen to. Got suggestions? Email me!
