I feel it. I feel the cosmos!

King

Oh how I love me some Katamari Damacy. A friend had told me about it first… the cute little seemingly pointless game where all you do is roll around a ball and pick stuff up. It sounded incredibly boring, but as anyone who has had the chance to play it knows, it’s incredibly addictive and nowhere near as simple as it sounds (with an awesome soundtrack, to boot.)

I won’t go into a review here, but I would like to say that the sequel, We <3 Katamari (or みんな大好き塊魂 in Japan), is now out, and while I haven’t had the chance to play it, I have had the luxury of listening to the as-expectedly whacked out soundtrack. Overall it’s wonderfully enjoyable. One of the first tracks to catch my ear was ‘Katamari On The Rocks’ by Japanese a cappella beatbox artist Dokaka. You may or may not have heard him on Bjork’s absolutely scary ‘Medulla’, but it seems he’s more well known in Japan for his very crazy covers of hair metal hits. His website has some free MP3s of his work, as well as recordings from his early beginnings at the age of 5, humming along to TV theme songs.

And in the spirit of The King, here are some links to some interesting/crazy Katamari related items on the web:

All I’m saying is that if people are going to such great lengths to honor this game, there definitely has to be something to it. Check it out next time you get the chance, and maybe you too can feel it. You can feel the cosmos.
