The latest version of Firefox, 1.5, has been released. You really don’t have any excuse for NOT using it.
One of the things I love so much about Firefox are the extensions. Here’s a list of the ones I use most that make my life a whole lot easier:
• Bookmarks Synchronizer - Great for sharing bookmarks automatically between two computers. Say I find a great site while at work. I bookmark it, and through the magic of internet technology, when I go home, there it is in my bookmarks for further perusal! Smashing!
• Web Developer - This one is essential if you do any type of web authoring. Web Developer allows you to do so much—browse the style guide or a page or site, view individual css elements on a page, disable specific elements to see what a site looks like without its styles, resize your browser window to preset sizes for testing, outline elements to see how a page is constructed… the list goes on and on. Definitely an essential tool for any web developer.
• ColorZilla - I use this one almost daily when I’m trying to pull colors from a website or graphic. ColorZilla enables a sort of eyedropper tool so you can pick out any color in your browser window. Great for picking colors from logos, photos, or anything else online.
• downTHEMall (currently awaiting update for 1.5) - Allows you to download, well… everything. Great for pulling off single or multiple filetypes from a site. For example, if a large body of text has been broken up into smaller files, you can use this extension to download all .txt files from an open page. Comes in handy!
• gTranslate - Uses the Google Translate service to translate between German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English. Essential when treading into foreign waters on the internet.
These are just some of the extensions that I use. There are many more available which would theoretically allow anyone to enhance Firefox to suit whatever type of browser needs they might possibly have!
