IKEA vs. The Nissan Versa

IKEA vs. the Nissan Versa

As a proud owner of a 2007 Nissan Versa (as featured in Heroes), I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. A lot of attention to detail went into making it feel like a somewhat fancy car: padded armrests, a beautifully quiet cabin, smooth everything. Polly Danger and I both have a lot of fun driving it.

One of the reasons we chose the Versa over other cars in it’s class was the cargo skills afforded to one when they rock a hatchback. Yes, the rear seats fold down, but I think what a lot of people might overlook is that the passenger seat folds almost entirely back, thus giving you almost 85″ of horizontal space.

We had the opportunity to test this out this weekend when we went to everyone’s favorite Swedish friend, IKEA! We picked up about 4 plastic bags worth of household goods (they charge 5ยข a bag now in the US, 5p in the UK, encouraging you to either purchase a reusable bag, or bring your own, so think ahead next time you take a trip down there…), 4 packs of shelves, and two 79″ tall shelving frames. Two people were watching in amazement as I pulled up with the little Versa, flipped down the rear seats, leaned back the passenger seat, and slid both bookshelves all the way in.

Sure, the good miss Polly Danger had to sit on the folded down seat behind me, but all in all, it worked out. We’ll be using the Versa more and more for shuttling stuff from one place to another, so I’m very interested to see how we can push the cargo space to it’s limits.
