I was looking for books on the upcoming Flash CS3 today on Amazon, and I saw a promo banner for the Motorola Ming. I hadn’t heard of it before, but two things jumped out at me: it runs LINUX, and it’s sold unlocked.
What the hell? It’s a PDA with a dope transparent cover and what appears to be a touchscreen interface. Linux means it will be hacked like crazy to add all kinds of functionality. Unlocked means you can have it on any carrier. Handwriting recognition? Opera web browser?? With a 2 megapixel camera and a built-in MP3 player, this could very well be the budget choice for those who don’t want to go for the iPhone. Sure, it doesn’t have the cool factor of the iPhone, and it probably doesn’t have all the functionality, but out of all the companies who are putting out “iPhone killers”, this seems to be the one with the most heart.
Check it out here and keep your eyes open for this one in the news.
