This week continues our impromptu tour of the Pacific Northwest, bringing us back to Olympia, WA. It’s hard to mention The Microphones as I did two weeks ago without mentioning Khaela Macharich’s The Blow! Formerly Get the Hell Out of the Way of the Volcano, The Blow mixes performance art with song. Khaela’s covered themes such as the night noise, the moon, and summer camp friendships in her witty and melodious way.

I was working at Borders Books & Music when the most awesome thing I ever saw on remainder (aka bargain) appeared: A Uri Geller mind power kit. I didn’t have the money to buy one, and by the time I did, they were gone forever.

Ahhh yes, this one takes me way back to my days in Olympia, WA, where Phil Elvrum and friends would be performing around every turn! The Microphones was the wonderful music-child of Phil & whatever friends that might have happen by, such as Mirah and Khaela of The Blow. I have many fond memories of seeing them play in backyards, apartments, and yoga studios all around town.
