Camille

There’s a lot of good music coming out of France these days, which is great considering we’re still working our way out of the rehashing of the 70s sound. Camille first appeared on Nouvelle Vague, the French music project that recreates 80’s new wave hits in swanky bossa nova fashion.

Her 2005 album, Le Sac Des Filles, was a concept album based on one note that starts at the beginning of the album and lasts all the way until the very end. The only instruments on the album are a bass and a keyboard, and everything else is built using her own voice. Her 2002 release, Le Fil, which this track is from, is a little more traditional but still pleasantly out there. I would say she’s the perfect blend of “musical” and “cracked-out”.
