Food in the Valley: Bobo’s Burgers

If you happen to be up in Pacoima and hankering for one of the best burgers you’ve never had, you can’t do better than Bobo’s. Situated about halfway up Van Nuys Blvd., between San Fernando Road and Laurel Canyon, Bobo’s serves up a delicious array of hamburgers, sandwiches, and appetizers.

Food in the Valley: Phở 999

The best Vietnamese place in San Francisco was on Kearny Street, just south of Broadway. New Saigon was definitely a hole-in-the-wall, next door to the extremely popular House of Nanking and while it might not have been jumping in the dinner hours, it was always packed at lunch time with the locals. Fronted by an old blue awning, it’s run by a bunch of old Vietnamese ladies who cook up delicious, cheap, plentiful food. The combination was perfect.

Food In The Valley: Islands, Porter Ranch

This one is easy:

For the love of all that is holy, do not go to Islands in Porter Ranch.

I rarely have an experience as bad as I had there at Islands. I’ve eaten at many a shady food place, and never before have I experienced the most incredible combination of badness as I did the other night… it was stunning! Sure, maybe the food could be bad, or the service slow, or the waitresses bring the wrong drinks, and maybe the fries could have been the bottom of the barrel fries, but everything rolled up together in one trip was too much to be a coincidence.

Food In The Valley: Krua Thai

Something I’m going to definitely miss about San Francisco is the food. Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Indian, Japanese, Pakistani, Ethiopian, Mexican, Korean, Russian… any food you could possibly imagine was relatively close-by on the 7×7 peninsula. LA is a big place though, and I’m sure all those things could be found here… I just need to get out there and find them.
