Ok, I really think it’s official now. Ska is alive and well in Japan.
Tonight I saw the first episode of the Japanese drama “What’s Wrong with Money?” on my personal dream channel iaTV. I’m not sure who did the theme song, but it is unmistakably a ska band! This coupled with Tokyo’s Japanese Ska Festival last year is more evidence that we had of the existence of the Loch Ness Monster that ska is alive and well in Japan!

During a scene in this week’s episode of Extreme Home Makeover, a definite ska track was playing in the background. I couldn’t place it, but I hold it up as yet another piece of evidence that indeed, ska is not dead. I’d told people about these marvels of southern California, but those who had not seen them did not believe me. I kept meaning to take pictures every time I go down there but I always forget. Luckily, I randomly happened upon this student project of photos of these “unnatural wonders”. Click through and bask in the splendor of human achievement!

I found this list of, um… ascii owls… on Mike The Actuary’s blog. For those who are curious, an actuary is “a statistician who computes insurance risks and premiums.” Okay… Mike also has an affinity for freeways, highways and road signs.
